Providing the finest care, comfort, and compassion.

Tobacco Free at MMCH

Tobacco use is the number one preventable cause of death and disease in the United States. As a healthcare provider, MMCH is committed to promoting health and wellness in our community and workplace by providing a clean, healthy environment for all guests and team members.

Effective January 1, 2007, Margaret Mary Community Hospital will join many other hospitals in our region and across the nation that have adopted a totally tobacco-free policy. The designated smoking areas will be removed from the premises and tobacco use will be prohibited from all MMCH hospital properties and grounds, including personal vehicles in parking lots.

Physicians and staff will work closely with patients to provide education, support, smoking cessation assistance or nicotine replacement therapy to those who request it. By prohibiting all tobacco use, MMCH will be modeling healthy behaviors and creating a safer environment for everyone.

For more information about the hospital’s new policy, the risks of tobacco use, or a list of other area hospitals going tobacco-free, please call the Community Relations Department at (812) 933-5209.
