Volunteer Opportunities
There are many reasons why people volunteer at MMCH. Some are retirees who still want to make a valuable contribution of their time and talents. Some are pursuing healthcare careers and want some practical experience. Others are working adults who want to complement their paid jobs with a rewarding volunteer experience. But they all want to give back to the community and make a difference in the lives of others.
For more than 75 years, volunteers have played a vital role in the hospital’s operations and delivery of care. They have been directly involved in patient care as well as behind the scenes assisting staff members in a variety of clerical and support roles. MMCH volunteers assist patients, families and staff in a variety of ways and serve in many departments including: registration, outpatient services, inpatient care, oncology, home care and hospice, same day surgery, and administration. Typical clerical duties can include copying, faxing, filing, organizing charts, labeling supplies and checking medications, preparing mailings, entering data, answering the phone, greeting visitors, and delivering mail and flowers. To enhance patient care, volunteers assist by reading or visiting patients, passing water and meal trays, changing bed linens, and answering call lights.
Volunteer applicants must be at least 16 years old and be able to commit to at least 25 hours of service every year. Active volunteers receive training, uniforms, meal vouchers and wellness benefits.
