Tune into Wellness is a monthly radio show on 103.9 – WRBI that features health topics by some of MMCH’s very own health care professionals. The show airs on WRBI the second Friday of each month at 9:30 a.m., but you can also tune in right here!

Many people can benefit from Speech Therapy. Children may exhibit language delays, stuttering or difficulty pronouncing certain sounds. For adults, Speech Therapy is often beneficial following a medical issue, such as a stroke, or for health conditions like Parkinson’s Disease or MS. At MMCH, complimentary massages are available for patients on our cancer, OB and same-day surgery units. For many patients, receiving a massage calms them and brings them peace. Others have found receiving the service allows them to better handle pain, anxiety, nausea and fatigue. Listen to certified massage therapist, Carla Stenger, on the benefits of massage.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. A colonoscopy is the most effective way to screen for colon cancer and is recommended for anyone 50 or older. Margaret Mary is the first hospital in the state of Indiana to install a digital broadband MRI. This technology is used to examine soft tissues in areas like the brain, spine, breast, abdomen, pelvis and joints. In this session of Tune into Wellness, you’ll hear from Kari Ann Rennekamp, a social worker with The Hansen Center. As a cancer survivor herself, Kari Ann knows, firsthand, what cancer patients go through while battling this terrible disease. She’ll talk about the Building Strength program, a class held at the Southeastern Indiana YMCA designed to help cancer survivors develop an excercise program that meets their needs.

Some people experience a serious mood change when the seasons change. They may sleep too much, have little energy and feel depressed. This condition is seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
