Colonoscopy is the examination of the large bowel and rectum, and the distal part of the small bowel with a camera on a flexible tube passed through the rectum. The camera provides a digital image on a monitor for the physician to examine the interior lining of the colon. Colonoscopies are often given to patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease or ulcerative colitis. A colonoscopy is the most effective way to screen for colon cancer and is recommended for anyone 50 or older. With state-of-the-art technology, highly skilled physicians and a commitment to the early detection of colon cancer, we promise you’ll be pleased with our services. Our staff understands a colonoscopy can be intimidating, especially for first-timers. That’s why our nurses take great care to make you as comfortable as possible, while respecting your privacy. Our patients frequently comment on how the exam was much easier than expected.
Upper Endoscopy (EGD)
An upper endoscopy or EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is a diagnostic procedure to examine the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine. It is performed using a flexible tube with a camera on the end which allows the physician to see the digital image on a monitor. Your doctor may choose this procedure to discover the reason for swallowing difficulties, nauesa, vomiting, reflux, bleeding, indigestion or chest pain.
About our Private Rooms
For the privacy of our patients, the Outpatient Clinic includes 10 prep/recovery rooms for those undergoing an endoscopy or colonoscopy. These rooms provide the patient and their families a place of their own to go before and after the procedure. The rooms are furnished with televisions and DVD players, and a centrally located nourishment center is available for the family to help themselves to drinks and snacks while waiting.
